Hanen Book Nook Packets

In partnership with the Sunrise School Division, the library is hosting the Hanen Book Nook Packet Program.

What is this program?

The Hanen Book Nook was created by the Hanen Centre – aiming to enable parents to use daily interactions, with their children, to build the best possible language and literacy skills.

The Book Nook is to help identify ways parents can use books to promote their child’s emergent literacy skills. Thus, preparing them for later reading success.

Each Hanen Book Nook packet contains a storybook and a parent-friendly handout that focuses on how to help your child develop and strengthen ONE of five key pre-literacy skills: sound awareness, print knowledge, vocabulary, story comprehension, and conversation.

Each skill is fully explained and tips are provided for the “first reading, second reading, later readings” because your child is most likely to strengthen their skills when a book is read over and over again.

Once you learn the strategies, you can use them with ANY book you read to your child.

Multiple packets are available for each of the five skills.
