Policies are set by the Board of the Springfield Public Library and administered by the Manager of Library Services. The Manager and appointed staff may use discretion to consider making exceptions to policies as requested on an individual basis.

Library members are asked to agree to be responsible for any loss, damage or fines on books/materials borrowed. Patrons should inspect items prior to borrowing for any damages and advise staff at circulation counter in order for us to make note of condition of the copy.

Loan Period


Books including Talking books, pamphlets and Large Print Books.

Note: Items may be renewed up to two times, for a total loan period of nine weeks unless another patron has requested a hold be placed on the item.leending


Hold materials


DVD movies and Magazines. DVD's have a borrowing fee of $1.50 per item, with $1.00 per day late fees.


  • Interlibrary Loans: As set up by lending library
  • Interlibrary Loan request limit of 3 per week
  • 5 Video/DVD maximum per borrower
  • 2 item subject limit in Juvenile Non-Fiction

Notification of Overdue Fines/Holds

A detailed receipt is provided at check out, indicating date(s) of due items. This receipt serves as your only notice.

Privileges suspended with letter notification at 21-28 business days (three weeks)


25 cents per day, to a maximum of:

$5.00 on Books

$5.00 on Magazines

$10.00 on DVDs

Patrons will be charged fines on lost materials until items are returned or paid for.

1.00 fine may be charged for failure to pick up interlibrary loan items.

Fines must be paid down to $5.00 to resume borrowing privileges.

Patrons with fines over $5.00 are prohibited from using library privileges on other patron accounts.


Reserves will be held for 7 days

On high demand items, some limits may apply

We will pull items for patrons by request as time allows.

During peak hours, and periods of staff shortage, patrons will be responsible to come and retrieve items in person.
