It's a new year and winter is now in full swing! Though it's a bit chilly out, we have a nice warm library with many children's programs about to start up to keep you and your little one busy! So if you have a little one who's not in school quite yet, take a look at what's going on at the library!
It's chilly out there as winter is now here, meaning so are our winter programs!
With the kids back at school, some of you are celebrating, while others are missing them already. But if you have a little one who's still at home and you're looking for something to do with them, then check out some of our Winter Programs here at the library!
Programs that are coming up:
"Storytime" is for preschoolers aged 2+, and is held on Wednesday, from 10 - 11 am, starting Feburary 1st. Miss Cherie reads aloud to the children, and leads a craft session, often incorporating a theme over the holidays and special days of the year. Registration is required and limited, so register asap! Sessions run for around 8 weeks. Parental accompaniment is required.
-Baby Rock 'n' Read:
Starting Janurary 20th, every Friday mornings from 10 - 10:30 am, prior to Mind & Body, Miss Melinda welcomes Moms, Dads, and Caregivers with infants-in-arms. (Baby should be young enough to be content staying in the circle with their adult). Melinda encourages the love of reading by detailing the "Secrets of Reading to Baby" while the group sits in a circle on blankets and/or cushions. Music, rhymes and stories are what keeps this group "Rocking". (There is a technique to reading to infants, as their eyes are not yet able to focus on small objects or pictures). Come and join in - no registration required and drop-ins are welcomed, but we encourage you all ahead of time and let us know if you plan to attend. Please call to check dates of sessions. You are welcome to bring along a favorite "blankie" and/or cushion if you'd like.
-Mind + Body:
On Fridays, beginning Janurary 20th, from 10:30 - noon, is taught by Miss Melinda and prepares your 4 or 5 years olds for Kindergarten by following an agenda similar to that of a school day in K-class. Each student is introduced to the recognition and formation of letters and numbers, with story reading, memory games, and many literature-based activities filling up the first portion of the session, exercising the "Mind." After a 15 minute "recess," during which a healthy snack is provided, the children finish the afternoon with a "Physical Education" period, in the form of a creative movement, games, and other "Body" movements. A parent or caregiver is required to accompany each child to assist with their learning. Register your child for one of "Mind + Body's" three, 8-week sessions by calling us or stopping by. On Professional Development Days, parents may bring their school aged children along to M&B. Parents- please advise Melinda ahead of time how many "extra" participants she will have on P.A. Days so she can prepare.
